___________________________________________________________ Virtual Environments Demonstration Guidelines Demonstrations fall into 3 general categories: * VIP tours/Larry Smarr's visitors * Industrial Partners * Education Outreach VIP tours: These are usually the highest tech demos we have at the moment. The big exhibitors currently are the CAVE5D Virtual Director and Caterpillar. These demonstrations are handled by those involved in the project like the Virtual Director group. Industrial Partners: This demonstrations range from the simple CAVE application to more complex applications. Should a partner like Shell come through - applications with emphasis on fluid or gas dynamics are shown (Nalco Boiler) Vice mambers should present these demonstrations becausse these are generally people interested in using NCSA'a virtual environments facilities and technological questions are frequent. The Vis group (Bill Sherman, Dave Bock, Volodymyr Kindratenko, Alan Craig and Rob Stein) are all adebt at presenting this material. Education Outreach: These are the more difficult demonstrations. Not because of complexity rather because they are constant, mundane and can involve large numbers of people. The applications shown are basic. Aquarium, Cathedral and Crayoland. The coordination of these demonstrations should be handled by Education Outreach. I have recently trained: Lisa Bievenue bievenue@ncsa.uiuc.edu Jennie File jfile@ncsa.uiuc.edu Phil Heeler@ncsa.uiuc.edu Dave McWilliams davem@ncsa.uiuc.edu Umesh Thakkar uthakkar@ncsa.uiuc.edu They are now capable of handling these demonstrations. The demonstrations should also be coordinated through Allison Clark For large groups, I insist on breaking them into groups of 10 for 15 - 20 minutes each - A group of 30 would require an hour of CAVE time. I recomend that these demonstrations be coordinated by Education Outreach and they can devise a system of "how many per month" they wish to allow. ___________________________________________________________ Tom Coffin............................tcoffin@ncsa.uiuc.edu
