Barco had a very strong presence at Siggraph97. I thought
it was interesting that Electrohome did not, except through
their VAR's like Pyramid. There were 2 eye catching
products on review here. The Baron and the BarcoReality 9200 LC.
Baron
The Baron is Barcos answer to the ImmersaDesk. It has hydraulics
for rotating the screen from an angle (like the IDesk) to flat
(like the WorkBench). The Baron is compact looking and
very sturdy. Though it does not appear to be as portable as the
IDesk it seems that they are targeting a use where portability
is not an issue. For example in the drafting/visualization room
of a product manufacturer. The low cost of the Baron ($60K) will
be in direct competition with the ImmersaDesk at ($130K).
This LCD projector really kicks .... out a lot of light.
The display set up in the Booth was very impressive, However
this tech is not stereo friendly. Nevertheless, it would be
very nice for a non-stereo visualization on the IWall.
It lists for ~$104K so you need deep pockets to play with this toy.
