Agenda: | Farewell party for Lex Lane to be Sept. 28 Long-time NCSA staffer Lex Lane will retire at the end of this month. A farewell party is planned for Friday, Sept. 28 from 3 to 4:30 in room 1104 of the NCSA Building. Lex started at NCSA in September 1985, which he recalls was about six weeks after the first Cray X-MP/24 was installed in ACB. As a user consultant, he spent his first months at NCSA installing and testing software, writing documentation, and assisting with configuration and policy decisions. Over the years, Lex has served in many key roles at the center, including software manager, associate director for software development, associate director for Alliance information management, and as a director's office utility player. Lex says that he has no definite post-retirement plans yet, but expects that "it will now be time for something completely different." "There are several long-postponed projects around our house and property that need attention, and I plan to build some bee hives and maybe a small observatory for my telescopes this winter. Joan and I may travel a bit more, but we plan to stay in the area." Best wishes, Lex! |
